Holy Week Services and Events

Join us for an Ellicott City Easter : A Community Easter Event and Celebration held in the heart of the Ellicott City Historic District as we come together, connect with neighbors, restore community, and celebrate all the joy the Easter season brings!

Emory United Methodist Church, Ellicott City will be holding multiple services and community events throughout Holy Week:

Palm/Passion Sunday Service

Palm/Passion Sunday recapitulates the beginning and the end of Christ’s final week in Jerusalem. We move from a triumphal procession and its stirring of hope as our entrance rite to hearing of a very different kind of procession, a forced march with a crucifix, to conclude it. You can RSVP to our Palm Sunday Service on Facebook.

Maundy Thursday Service

Holy Thursday, or Maundy Thursday, marks the last conversation Jesus has with his disciples, a conversation grounded in what he calls a new commandment (mandatum in Latin, hence our English word “Maundy”). He illustrates and underscores the new commandment by washing their feet: “Love one another as I have loved you.”
You can RSVP to our Maundy Thursday Service on Facebook.

Good Friday Cross walk and Service

Good Friday, or Holy Friday as it is known in nearly every non-English-speaking culture, we witness the execution of Jesus, recognize our ongoing complicity with the powers of death, and are called to enter the Great Silence of all creation in response to the death of its God and Maker. You can RSVP to our Historic Ellicott City Good Friday Cross Walk and Service on Facebook.

Easter Sunrise Ecumenical Service

Every year on Easter Sunday, groups of people from different Churches join in morning prayer and worship in Historic Ellicott City. Easter Sunrise is an early morning service built on the framework of the Great Vigil of Easter. It moves from contemplation to celebration. To find out more and to RSVP see our Historic Ellicott City Easter Sunrise Ecumenical Service on Facebook.

Easter Community Breakfast

Three things we know how to do at Emory is eat, pray and love. All are welcome to join us for a hearty, warm breakfast after the Easter Sunrise Service and before our Traditional Easter Day Service. We will have activities for children, including an egg hunt. Please join us! You can RSVP on Facebook to the Ellicott City Easter Community Breakfast.

Easter Day Traditional Service

Easter Sunday is the principal Easter Sunday morning service of word and sacrament celebrating the resurrection of Jesus and kicking off the Easter Season of 50 days (through the Day of Pentecost). You can RSVP to the Ellicott City Easter Day Traditional Service on Facebook.
